Synopsis

The film's protagonist, Magtymguly Pyragy, is a historical figure — the great Turkmen poet and thinker who lived and worked in the mid-18th century. The picture depicts his years on Uzbek soil, in particular his studies at the madrasas of Bukhara and Khiva, and the most important events of his life. Despite Magtymguly's youth, his poems became known not only among the Turkmen people but among the Uzbeks as well. The film also shows the poet's attitude to life and to people, his high moral character, his inner turmoil, suffering and pain, his drive for deep study of both religious and secular sciences; it reveals his friendliness, his striving for the unity of his people and his immense love for his homeland. The film was made for the 300th anniversary of the great poet's birth.
